With so much to do in The City (and a surprising number of these San Francisco attractions can be enjoyed for free), these few are the iconic San Francisco tourist attractions that should be on your Must See List because they are so uniquely San Francisco!
And one of the best things about The City is that it's so eminently walkable!
San Francisco covers only 49 square miles of territory.
it's entirely possible to get around San Francisco easily and quickly without ever taking your car out of the garage.
Walk, use the excellent public transportation system, or take a taxi to visit San Francisco icons like the stately Golden Gate Bridge, internationally celebrated cable cars, hustling and bustling Fisherman's Wharf, notorious Alcatraz, and historic (yes, we said historic) Union Square...
Probably the most iconic of San Francisco attractions is the Golden Gate Bridge! Towering 746 feet tall, 220 feet above the water, and spanning 1.7 miles across the Golden Gate Strait, the GGB is San Francisco's most recognizable symbol. Another favorite symbol of The City is San Francisco's Cable Cars. Riding the Cable Cars is something every visitor to San Francisco wants to do.
Even if you've done it before, you can't help but want to hop on board just one more nostalgic time!
And, of course, there's Alcatraz Island! We're always fascinated by the Bad Boys aren't we? But there's more to Alcatraz than just the old Federal penitentiary.
You'll find San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf to be great fun! Lots of
lively activity, history, the fishing fleet, shopping, good food,
street performers and street vendors... you'll never be bored at
Fisherman's Wharf!
The dual personality of Chinatown is a fun visit! Experience the touristy Chinatown that most people know, but don't miss the very real Chinese community that lives, shops, and works in Chinatown.
Commissioned by Lillie Hancock Coit, San Francisco's Coit Tower stands tall and overlooks the Bay.
Take a City Guides tour up to the top (they're free)!
If you're a shopper, I'm sure you've heard of Union Square.
But what about Union Street? It's not as well known as the other, but it's an adorable shopping area in the Cow Hollow section of The City with boutiques, and spas, and eateries!
