Hiking through the gorgeous Yosemite National Park can make your family’s vacation both memorable and educational. There are many hikes that can take you just about anywhere in the park; however, many want family-friendly hikes that everyone in the family can enjoy.
Yosemite boasts more than 800 miles of trails, and guided hikes are one of the best options to allow you to see the park and all its beauty.
Guided tours from the Redwoods in Yosemite will let you explore the area, while learning about area history, riparian meadows, wildlife, and natural habitats. Knowledgeable guides can answer your questions as you hike through the area.
These guided tours have moderate elevation gains, making them easy-to-moderate in difficulty, and can be enjoyed by anyone in good physical shape. Hikes can last between two and four hours. These hikes include:
The Wawona Historic Swinging Bridge that is a moderate two-mile hike and lasts about two hours. Hikers will meet at the Redwoods in Yosemite registration meeting and events center.
The Wawona Meadow loop hike covers 3-1/2 miles in about 2-1/2 hours. You and your group will meet at the trailhead, right next to the Wawona Hotel.
There’s even a combined tour that includes both the Swinging Bridge and the Meadow Loop. Just give the Redwoods a call (888-225-6666) for more information and to reserve your spot.
Ranger-Guided Hikes
You can also go on hikes that are guided by National Park Service rangers. These hikes are multi-day trips that will take you to areas such as Vogelsang, May Lake, Merced Lake and Sunrise. All meals and lodging will be provided during these NPS-guided hikes.
Many want to hike the famous Half Dome. It is such a popular hike that the Park Service uses a permit system for this trip. You can apply for these permits directly through the Park Services. Many guide services can also help you apply for these permits.
If you are a novice at backpacking, there are guided trips for you too. You can enjoy a two-day guided trip that will introduce you to backpacking and trekking the wilderness. These guided adventures include all the equipment you’ll need including backpacks, sleeping bags, and tents. This is perfect for the family who wants to learn how to backpack together.
Enjoying family friendly guided hikes can make your Yosemite experience fun and memorable. Of course, don’t forget to bring a camera!
